aturday 3 December 2022 marked a significant first for LU4C. 50 learners from 5 schools within, and outside of Cape Town (Dietrich Moravian, Eastville, Arrieskraal, Tandfontein and Ezelfontein) participated in our inaugural LU4C Sports Day. The mini tournament at the Montague Arena, consisted of Action Soccer games, leading up to a nailbiting final. The day started with a very brief welcome for the players and their teachers, as the teams were pumped for their games from the time they arrived. After a biokineticist-approved pre-game breakfast, the tournament kicked off. Looking very “Pro” in their LU4C game t-shirts (courtesy of our title sponsors Protea Toyota) the learners played up a storm and were about as competitive as any Premier League team.
While the learners were having fun in the arena, Ricardo and Duncan from The Run Lab SA , facilitated a workshop for the educators to guide them in developing their own programs for movement activities to be implemented back at their schools. The tournament ended with a medal and prizegiving ceremony. By this time everyone had worked up very hefty appetites and were ready to dig into their KFC lunch. All players went home with a LU4C goodie bag consisting of 5 pairs of school socks, a stationery pack, and a LU4C waterbottle. We are eternally grateful to our sponsors for helping to make the day a success: • Title Sponsor – Protea Toyota. Thank you for the AMAZING T-SHIRTS!!!! • John Litten and the team at Montague Action Arena for hosting us for a spectacular fun-filled day • Unchain The Plain for the donation of Soccer Balls. These will be shipped off to the participating schools at the beginning of the new school year • Wilderness Private Journeys who sponsored the wonderful Goodie Bags for the players • ChanceGross for your contribution towards the lunch. • The Run Lab SA for your collaboration and workshop facilitation. Your partnership has added a unique and holistic approach to our sports program. As the crew, we had so much fun in all of the hard work it took to put together this event. We’ve endeavored to make the next Sports Day even more successful, bigger and more fun for all!
