Alhamdulillah (praise be to God”,) Saturday 2nd December 2023, #LU4C hosted their second sports day at the Montague Action Arena. An event, as highlighted by Mr Pillay from Dietrich Moravian Primary, where learners were looking forward to for the whole year! Teams from Talfallah Primary -, Manenberg, Blomvlei Primary – Hanover Park, Ezelfontein Primary – Ceres, Tandfontein Primary – Ceres and reigning champions Dietrich Moravian Primary – Philippi; were welcomed with a nutritious breakfast before the festivities commenced.
Chairperson Faizel Jacobs welcomed the teams before Nazeem Isaacs an ex-professional soccer player from Mitchell’s Plain gave a motivational talk. As a recovering drug addict, Nazeem spoke to the importance of God and education to keep us on the right track and how sports can be a positive vehicle for change.
As soon as the games commenced, it was evident that the teams were here to play, and this relayed itself into a tense final between Talfallah Primary & Blomvlei Primary. The final had it all. Penalties, warnings, a draw at full time, a penalty shootout – best out of three. This in turn went over to a “Sudden Death Shoot Out” which was taken by new champions – Talfallah Primary School! A real sad moment for our chair Faizel, was when one of the learners asked: “Uncle, can’t we play more than just the 1 time a year?” This has sparked a renewed vigour in our #LU4CCrew to explore the possibility of hosting a mid-year event, much to the delight of the teachers who have accompanied these teams.
We are grateful to the blessings from above who have blessed us with phenomenal sponsors. Protea Toyota, thank you for your consistent support of our initiatives. The playing kit not just looked good, but made our kids feel part of something greater. John Litten and the team at the Montague Action Arena. Your enthusiasm and hospitality to help make a small difference to these children’s lives is appreciated in more ways than you can ever imagine. Our unnamed donors and sponsors, may you ALL receive great reward for your contributions for contributing to the day’s success.
Chairman Faizel felt overwhelmed by the support received from all of you who have contributed to the success of this sports day. This is a culmination of an 8-year vision that has finally become a reality and grateful to you all. To the LU4C Crew members, your support and dedication to the vision of this organization is appreciated and I pray that you, along with our sponsors and donors remain blessed for your unwavering need to facilitate change within our impoverished communities. We all realise that there will always be q’s for the hand outs, however, we believe that by empowering our communities, we can definitely shorten these q’s” #LaceUpForChange #LU4C #LaceUpForSchools #Sports4Change
